Who Decides Who You Are?
Who decides who your are…? Have you ever thought about this…? Just think about it for few seconds before you proceed further.
Most often “who you are?” is not decided by you, instead by many others in your family, friends, workplace and society at large. You dress for others, you eat for others, you buy for others and you live for others. Big brands and premium products are primarily aimed at people who are not truly themselves, but trying to create a certain perception of the sake of others.
It is so fascinating to see people change at a very fundamental level based on external circumstances, based on the group he or she is associated with, with the brand they possess, based on the people they are with, based on the situations they face. Because they are not truly anchored into their own identity, but are willing to freely change for the benefits they would get out of people and situations.
Have you ever jumped a RED signal just because the police man was not seen around? Have you posted an online comment with hidden identity in the name of anonymous? Do you have a nice flower or a cute little puppy or your favorite movie star as your profile picture in social media websites? Do you live life by chance or conscious choice? If you live life by chance as most people do, then your life is not decided by you but by others. Remember others will not choose the best for you, but the best for them through you. Many parents force their their children wanting them to bring their dreams true instead looking out for the child’s passion and interest.
Unless you find a course that is truly your own, you betray yourself, and then you’re no different than the person who betrayed or hurt you.
With the Social Media getting into every moment of your life, you often paint pictures about yourself that is not really who you are. Think about how many time you were not truly yourself to people around you….online or offline.
There is also a great possibilities of you having good influencers, role models and gurus who guide you through your life. Take all possible inspirations from all of them, but never ever let them decide for you.
I don’t want other people to decide who I am. I want to decide that for myself.
